Who we are
The Malt Shop is a free, non-profit magazine that is published online once a month. Created exclusively by forward thinking young people, the zine gets its name from the popular teen hangout place in the 50's where people would go to share milkshakes and, presumably, their opinions. We are a liberal-leaning publication, but we strive to express openmindedness through a variety of political and social viewpoints. The goal of The Malt Shop is to inform and inspire people about world politics and social issues in a creative way that forms a community among like-minded people and expresses a unique outlook on modern media.

I've always felt that the world cannot be changed on the whim of a single person. It seems to take a lot of people, places, and passions coming together in the name of the common goal: a better world. I want this magazine to be part of that.
Personally, I think one of the biggest problems with today's world is ignorance. People are uninformed, and mainstream media is notorious for leaving out pieces of the truth. As a result of this, people get confused. To be indifferent to social and political issues is to be a part of the problem, but before people become aware, they must be informed. I believe that The Malt Shop can truly make an impact in this area and give young, passionate people a chance for their voices to be heard. A good portion of America's youth is outspoken, and our opinion might matter the most - we are, after all, the future. Izzy McKinney Creator & Editor in Chief |
